It was a summer rainy day. You were walking under Makoto’s
umbrella as you were both headed to Haruka’s house. Haruka
was someone who highly enjoyed being in water. He said it was
like a gentle coolness was embracing him and his movements.
Like they had become one. In a sense, you felt like you could
understand how much Haruka loved the water and the feeling it gave him.
It brought to you similar feelings. You knocked on his front door. No answer.
You knocked again. You call out, “Haru? Haru are you in there?!
We’re gonna be late for school!” Still no answer.
The tall brown haired teen sighed. “Geez, I wonder why I
always go to the front door even though he doesn't answer.”
Makoto Tachibana, Haruka’s closest and best friend, although
Haruka was also pretty close to you as well. “Well we have to go through
the back. It’s this way.” You nodded your head and followed behind
Makoto to the back door. “He never locks it.”
“Probably because he knows that you come to see him every morning.”
He giggled “Yeah that might be why.” He opened the door slowly “Haru?”
You walk in slowly as Makoto closes the umbrella. Leaving it outside
he closes the door behind him.
“I’ll check the bathroom.” Makoto knocks on the door to the bathroom
“Haru, I’m coming in.” He opens the door and walks in the steadily.
“Huh?!” He rushes back out “He’s not in there!” Well that was a first,
for the both of you. “Haru!” Makoto called out his name as he went in
the kitchen. You turn your head and see a door that’s slightly opened.
Cautiously you knock on the door and call out his name “Haruka?”
Gently you open the door and you see a ball curled up on the bed that
slightly stirred. “I found him.” You walk over to his bed and you gently
move his shoulder back and forth. “Hey, Haru are you okay?” He moaned
and pulled the blanket from his face. He looked like he had been
deprived from sleep, his nose was also red and his eyes were swollen.
His t-shirt was soaked with sweat. “Oh my gosh! Haru!”
You sit on the edge of his bed and gently brush your hand against his forehead.
“You’re so warm…” Makoto walked in and saw Haru’s face “Haru! You look awful!”
He rushed over and he rolled the sick boy on his back.
“See I told you it was gonna get cold outside last night.
But you insisted on swimming in the school pool anyways!”
Haru shrugged with a sniffle “I regret nothing.” Makoto then crossed his arms
“Yeah well you will now since you’re not taking one step
inside a pool until you get better!” “You’re not my mother Makoto.”
“Yeah well I’m your best friend and I’m doing what’s best for you!”
Haruka sighed and looked at Makoto’s attempt at being angry “Besides...if you don’t get
better...I won't be able to swim with you...and neither will Nagisa, Rei, Rin or ___-
chan…” You chimed in “Yeah, I love swiming with you Haru-kun
and I’m pretty sure the others would want you to be okay too.”
Haruka looked at you with solemn eyes and gave you a light smile
“Well...I guess I’m outnumbered...but you can’t take care of me now, you have school.”
“I’ll skip.” Makoto smiled “I better skip, you should go to school Mako-kun.”
“Wait why do I have to go?” You smile coyly “Well considering
your grade in English, if you skip and Rin finds out,
he’s never gonna let that down.” (Rin is a fluent English speaker.)
“Well...you have a point there…Alright, if anything comes up, text me.”
Makoto sheepishly smiled. You then nod and give him a playful salute.
“I’ll see you later Haru.” Haruka gave a raspy “See ya”
as Makoto left the room and went out the back door.
